Most TV is awful these days but the three television series I highlight below stand above other TV shows as 3 of the most interesting TV shows of the 21st century so far!
The first show I want to mention is The Wire which was an excellent HBO drama which was on for 5 seasons from 2002 through 2008. Each season takes a look at the city of Baltimore, Maryland from a different perspective. It is a brilliant experience not only as a series that pulls the viewer in (like the other two series in you will find below I remember watching quite a few episodes in in just one day) but also as a series that makes important points about America.
I do not want to get into the specifics of those points are, as I think The Wire makes them far better than I could in an article like this. But I will mention that one of the things I really like about The Wire is how it blurs the line between the “good guys” and the “bad guys.” There are good and bad things about just about everyone.
The second show I want to recommend is the only one of the three that still has more new episodes to come and that is Dexter which is on Showtime. This is a series that I didn’t think I would like much when I first read about it so I was reluctant to check it out. I’m very glad that I did. It has ended up right there among my favorite shows of all time. Yes, it’s twisted (Dexter is a serial killer) but it’s twisted in a quite cool way.
The third show I want to recommend as one of the best TV show of the millennium is the one I have been most obsessed with lately and that’s probably because it has only recently ended. You can now buy the complete collection of Lost and that’s really the way to do it since this is a show that must be viewed from start to finish without any skipping around.
What I like about this mysterious show is that it’s “a huge story” where every show is an important part of the whole thing and leads into the next one. The key to really enjoying Lost is to watch it from beginning to end in order and avoid all spoilers!
