The end of the world as we know it

The world is going to end — again. The speculation surrounding the 2012 movie reminds me of the days just before 2000 hit when everyone was scared. I’m not really sure exactly how rumors that the world was going to end or that we could expect the Second Coming of Christ began, but they were everywhere and even easier to find than money lenders.

All computers were bound to stop working, Jan 1, 2000. Since that end of the world is done, it’s time for the next end of the world, 2012.Will the world end when the Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.

‘2012′ pulls in the big bucks

The film “2012,” which stars John Cusack and details the upcoming apocalypse, beat out all of the other films in theaters in terms of ticket sales over the weekend. Maybe it was because it was the only real new release, since “Pirate Radio” was only released in a few hundred movie houses.

2012 #1 at the Box Office. A Christmas Carol pushed out. 1 place to # 2. Men who Stare at Goats was bound to do good at the box office with George Clooney in it, and it did with .1 million. “Precious,” a Tyler Perry/Oprah project expanded and did well, snagging the No. 4 place with 6.ticket sales of 1 million. That’s a pretty amazing feat, considering that “Precious” is showing in less than 200 theaters. “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” remained in the top five, making .1 million.

More about ‘2012′

The Mayan Long Count calendar comes to an end on Dec. 21, 2012. On that calendar, the year is really 5125. Theories on the 2012 date range from a spiritual experience to a wake-up call for humankind. The apocalpyse is being compared with it.

2012 says disaster will strike. Filmmakers have made it pretty clear that the film is only loosely based on the Mayan calendar. 2012 is a great adventure action-packed movie not representing the beliefs of the Mayan people, just selling tickets.

Box office top 10

Amazingly, despite horrible reviews, both “Fourth Kind” and “Couples Retreat” did well at the box office, coming in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Couples Retreat is still up there, pulling in viewers. It has been out for five weeks. Coming in 8th place at the box office was Paranormal activity.

million was a big profit for Paranormal Activity that cost only ,000 to make. 2012 has made more than 0 million in just a few days. The 10th box office moneymaker is “Law Abiding Citizen at .9 million; The Box was next pulling in 3.2 million.
