Days of Glory: Genuine although trudging WW2 action pitting the Russians versus the Nazis, memorable only as Peck�s big screen debut. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Alan Reed, Maria Palmer, Lowell Gilmore, and Tamara Toumanova. (86 minutes, 1944)
Sugarbaby: Its love at first sighty for fat mortuary attendant Sagebrecht and subway train driver Swig in this droll romantic satire. Actors and tale are oftbeat, although the avant-garde lighting outcomes and camcorder movements by cinematographer Johanna Heer become irritating. Cast includes Marianne Sagebrecht and Eisi Swig. Hoosiers: Hackman gets a last chance job coaching a very small Indiana high school basketball team in the 1950s, and faces the duel tests of bringing the team to the state final and personal redemption. This story is loosly based on an actual team from a small town in Indiana that played for the state title. Cast includes Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey, Dennis Hopper, Sheb Wooley, Fern Parsons, Brad Boyle, Steve Hollar, Brad Long, and David Neidorf. (114 minutes, 1986)
Sudden Impact: Fourth in the Dirty Harry series depends on a reliable recipe, as maverick cop gives us vicarious delight of doing in civilization’s scum, although this entry is longer, and stupider, than need be. Locke plays a Lady taking out murderous reprisal on gentlemen (and one lesbian) who raped her and her sis years ago. Cast includes Clint Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Pat Hingle, Bradford Dillman, Paul Drake, Jack Thibeau, and Albert Popwell. (117 minutes, 1983)
Soapdish: Farcical comedy in reference to a soap opera monarch who’s trailing her clutch–on the show, and her life. Field and Kline are a treat to watch playing larger than life characters, however Whoopi is trashed, Downey is miscast, and the script (by Robert Harling and Andrew Bergman) imagines “anxious” equals “funny.” Cast includes Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Robert Downey, Jr., Cathy Moriarty, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Shue, Carrie Fisher, Garry Marshall, Teri Hatcher, Paul Johansson, Costas Mandylor, Stephen Nichols, Kathy Najimy, and Ben Stein.
